School of Wood — Terms of Service
By enrolling in a class, course, or purchasing a kit from School of Wood (“School of Wood”), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to the following terms and conditions:
Refunds
Kits: In accordance with Australian Consumer Law (ACL), kits are non-refundable except for major defects or if the product significantly differs from its description (e.g., wrong timber species or dimensions). Contact us within 7 days of receipt with photos/details. If eligible, we’ll arrange a refund (minus original shipping) upon return; return shipping is at your expense.
Classes/Courses: No refunds for lack of attendance, change of mind, or personal reasons. If School of Wood cannot fulfill a class (e.g., tutor or venue unavailability), we’ll offer a full refund or deferral to a future equivalent session (preferred). This applies to School of Wood-run classes only (Coburg); Richmond classes follow Richmond Neighbourhood Centre (RNC) terms.
Eligibility
All participants must be 18 years of age or older at the time of enrolment. Under 18s are not permitted for legal and safety reasons.
Payment Terms
All fees must be paid in full at the time of booking via Squarespace. For items like timber stock for sale or extra tutorage hours, payment can also be made separately via manual invoicing (contact us to arrange). We do not allow part payments or financing for classes.
Attendance
Coburg Classes (Term-Based & Serving Board): Attendance requirements are detailed on the respective service description page on schoolofwood.com.au. Consistent attendance is required for safety and progression. Missing sessions may result in forfeiture of your place without refund or credit. Richmond Classes: Strictly as per Richmond Neighbourhood Centre (RNC) terms – book directly with RNC. School of Wood does not offer catch-up sessions. Additional instruction is at the instructor’s discretion and incurs extra fees.
Class Schedule
Flexibility From time to time, class dates, times, or durations may need to be altered during a term (e.g., due to tutor availability, venue access, or group needs). All participants will be consulted to find a mutually acceptable solution. Changes will be communicated promptly via email.
Right of Refusal
School of Wood reserves the right to refuse entry or participation to any student who: • Is under the influence of alcohol or drugs • Poses a risk to themselves or others • Fails to comply with workshop rules, safety protocols, or venue guidelines (e.g., NORM Warehouse) • Behaves in an abusive, threatening, or discriminatory manner
Instructor Authority
Instructors have the final say regarding the size, scope, design, and material limits of all projects. For Coburg term-based classes, the instructor uses knowledge and experience to assess whether projects can be safely and feasibly built within available workshop capabilities and course time.
Supplied Materials & PPE
Serving Board Classes (Coburg): Timber blanks, handle templates, glue, board butter, and PPE (safety glasses, dust masks) are provided as part of the fee.
Coburg Term-Based Classes: No timber supplied; limited stock may be available for separate purchase. Consumables (e.g., glue, sandpaper) are provided, excluding hinges, specialty screws, or fixings. PPE is provided.
Richmond Classes: As per RNC terms – timber available for on-site purchase or bring your own (Restrictions apply); basic consumables may be available.
Kits: All specified timber, handle template, board butter, and instructions are included. Additional tools (e.g., clamps, sandpaper) are not provided.
Damage to Equipment
Any student who damages machinery, tools, or equipment due to failure to follow instructions will be fully liable for repair or replacement costs.
Project Outcomes
School of Wood provides guidance and instruction; however, it is not responsible for the final quality, completion, or outcome of any project.
Safety and Liability
School of Wood is not liable for any injury caused by misuse of tools or equipment. Failure to follow safety procedures, wear PPE, or disclose pre-existing conditions will result in immediate removal without refund. Students must complete the School of Wood Liability Waiver and venue onboarding prior to participation. Participants engage at their own risk and agree to indemnify School of Wood, its instructors, and venues from any claims arising from participation.
Photography and Promotion
By enrolling, you consent to School of Wood taking photographs or videos where safe to do so (e.g., once you're comfortable with a tool and attention can be briefly diverted). These may be used for promotional purposes on our website, social media, and marketing materials. If you do not consent, inform us via the contact form on schoolofwood.com.au at any time prior to the term starting.
Property and Storage
School of Wood is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal property or projects. Completed projects must be collected from the venue within seven (7) days of the final session. Uncollected items may be disposed of or repurposed.
Force Majeure
School of Wood is not liable for delays, cancellations, or disruptions due to circumstances beyond our control (e.g., pandemics, venue closures). We will work to reschedule where possible but do not guarantee refunds.
Discounts
Discounts apply only to specified classes or kits and are not valid for private sessions, custom orders, or unlisted items. School of Wood determines eligibility.
Kit-Specific Terms
Kits are shipped within 3–5 business days and non-refundable except per ACL (see Refunds). Instructions are a guide only, offering options based on possible home tools available — not exhaustive. Follow at your own risk. No liability exists beyond the timber and board butter shipped.
By proceeding with enrolment or purchase, you agree to comply with all of the above terms and conditions. Please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us if you have any questions at all.
